Your Labs Came Back Normal

Your Labs Came Back Normal. So Why Do You Still Feel Awful?

You did everything right. You went to your doctor. You asked for blood work. You waited for the results. And then you heard the words that so many of us have heard:

"Everything looks normal."

But you are exhausted. Your hair is falling out. Your weight won't budge no matter what you do. You feel foggy, bloated, and like a stranger in your own body. Normal doesn't feel like the right word for any of that.

Here is the thing: normal on a standard lab panel and optimal for your body are two very different things. We know that now. And that difference? It changes everything.

What Standard Lab Work Is Actually Measuring

Standard lab reference ranges are built from large population averages. They are designed to catch disease, not to find the space between feeling well and being sick.

So when your thyroid comes back "in range," that range may include women who are tired, gaining weight, and losing their hair. When your iron looks "fine," your ferritin may be sitting at a level too low to support your energy or your thyroid function.

There is nothing wrong with standard care. It does what it was built to do. But there is another way, and we know it. Functional lab work is designed to find patterns much earlier, before something becomes a diagnosis.

The Tests Most Women Never Get Asked About

A standard panel at your annual visit may check a handful of markers. Functional medicine looks at a much wider picture, including:

  • A full thyroid panel, not just TSH, but free T3, free T4, reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies

  • Ferritin, the storage form of iron that is often the missing piece behind fatigue and hair loss

  • Fasting insulin, which may reveal blood sugar patterns that a standard glucose test misses entirely

  • Vitamin D, B12, and magnesium at levels that support how your body actually functions

  • A full sex hormone panel that includes estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol

  • Gut and stool testing that looks at what is living in your microbiome and how well you are absorbing nutrients

Most of these are not complicated to order. They just are not part of a standard workflow. That is not a criticism of your doctor. It is simply how the system was built. We can do better.

You Are Allowed to Want More Information

Wanting to understand your own body is not being difficult. It is not "too much." It is what it looks like to take your health seriously.

When you know what to ask for, when you understand which tests to request and what the results actually mean, you stop waiting to feel better and start getting answers.

That is exactly what the course was built to give you.
